Executive Summary

Classic restaurants like Manny’s and Pequod’s serve delicious food and are highly popular in Chicago. But for customers in the suburbs, having hot, and near fresh food delivered from such places is a distant dream. To solve this, our client wanted to build a platform that delivers food without compromising its taste and temperature. Clixlogix built this platform, boosting customer retention by 72% and increasing order value by 42%. Buyers were able to enjoy great food at home without worrying about traffic and the stress that came with it.

About the Client

Chicago has some of the best and most diverse restaurants in the US. Our client set up a hot food delivery service that delivers the choicest dishes from any restaurant in Chicago city to high density suburban neighborhoods that are out of range for other food delivery services. They wanted to cater to specific needs in the market, i.e., time sensitive cuisine (premium bakery goods, specialty ethnic dishes, artisanal desserts), underserved by major delivery platforms due to distance and preparation constraints.

Business Challenge

The founders operated via manual phone orders, ad hoc courier hires, and social media promotions. While local demand was growing, operational inefficiencies limited scalability. The primary challenges were:
  • Strict Delivery Windows: Many menu items (e.g., soufflés, fresh breads) degraded in quality if not consumed within 30–45 minutes of preparation.
  • Suburban Delivery Gaps: Large platforms deprioritized these areas due to lower order density, leaving customers with limited options.
  • Courier Optimization: Lack of a crowdsourced courier model with temperature controlled transport and live tracking.
  • Vendor Compliance: Onboarding required health and safety checks and certified food handling protocols to comply with suburban municipality regulations.
  • Operational Oversight: No existing system to monitor orders, vendor readiness, courier location, and customer feedback in one unified dashboard.

Solution

We delivered a multi platform, full stack delivery ecosystem tailored to the client’s operational model and growth ambitions.

Phase 1 – Core Platform Launch

  • Native iOS and Android apps for customers and couriers, built for performance and offline resilience in low signal suburbs.
  • Vendor Portal with menu management, availability scheduling, and real time order notifications.
  • Dynamic Routing and Batching Engine using time window constraints to optimize courier loads while ensuring freshness.
  • With Temperature Compliance Tracking, couriers confirm insulated packaging use and temperature logs via mobile prompts.

Phase 2 – Growth and Intelligence Layer

  • Live Ops Dashboard (React.js web app) for real time delivery monitoring, vendor status, and route analytics.
  • Automated Vendor Onboarding with integrated background checks and health certificate uploads.
  • Push Notification Campaigns and in app promos targeted by location, cuisine preference, and ordering history.
  • Crowdsourced Courier Incentives with dynamic pay boosts for high priority routes.

Phase 3 – Optimization and Expansion

  • Machine Learning models to predict demand surges based on weather, holidays, and local events.
  • Customer feedback loops were integrated directly into vendor KPIs.
  • Scalable architecture to extend coverage beyond Chicago’s suburbs into nearby mid sized cities.
